Each of the Eight Villages in The Woodlands Planted a Commemorative Tree in Honor of Five Decades
THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Wednesday, October 16, 2024) - The Woodlands, an award-winning and nationally recognized master planned community, is celebrating five decades of vision, innovation, and excellence. To commemorate this significant event, The Woodlands is hosting a weeklong celebration from Monday, October 14, to Saturday, October 19, the actual date of the anniversary.
A Tree Dedication Ceremony highlighted the planting of a significant hardwood oak tree, representing the community’s commitment to sustainability. This symbolic event at Northshore Park on Wednesday, October 16 brought together community leaders, public officials and representatives from Howard Hughes and The Woodlands Township.
"As we commemorate The Woodlands' 50th anniversary, we remain dedicated to the core values of sustainability and environmental stewardship that George Mitchell envisioned when conceiving this community,” said Jim Carman, President, Houston Region for Howard Hughes. “With an unprecedented 35 percent of our land permanently dedicated to open green space, these tree plantings reinforce our pledge to preserve this natural heritage."
To extend the celebration across the community, 100-gallon trees were also planted in each of the eight residential villages. This initiative, carried out in partnership with the respective village associations, included Grogan's Mill, Panther Creek, Cochran's Crossing, Indian Springs, Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge, College Park and Creekside Park.
In celebration of its commitment to nature, The Woodlands Township generously gifted 50, three-gallon native oak trees to guests during the tree dedication.
“Since its founding, The Woodlands has been celebrated for its dedication to maintaining the lush greenery that distinguishes our community,” said Brad Bailey, Board of Directors, The Woodlands Township. “The planted tree dedication and tree giveaways symbolize The Woodlands' history and unwavering promise to the environment, serving as a testament to our dedication both now and for generations to come.”
Chris Nunes, Chief Operating Officer of The Woodlands Township, noted the community's distinctive character. "The lush tree canopy is consistently one of the most remarked-upon features by first-time visitors to The Woodlands. Our organization allocates substantial resources to maintain and enhance the natural landscape that defines our community's unique beauty and appeal."
